Smoke and shell casings fly as teachers and staff from Clifton Independent School District in Clifton, Texas, fire handguns at a range just outside of Clifton during training on what they need to know to get a license to carry a concealed gun. —Lance Rosenfield/Prime for Education Week

Shooting instructor Johnny Price looked at the teachers lined up in front of him, a selection of handguns resting on the table before them. He slid his fingertips over the clean, round bullet holes beyond the outlines of a human torso on paper targets a few yards away.

“That,” Mr. Price said, pointing to a hole that missed the target completely, “is a child.”

Mr. Price, the owner of Big Iron Concealed Handgun Training in Waco, Texas, spent two days this month training teachers and staff members from the Clifton school district in all they need to know to earn licenses to carry weapons out of sight. There is no indication that the 1,000-student district is leaning toward allowing employees to...

Good Intentions, Poor Results: It’s Not Too Late

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

If you’ve been following my blog, you know this week is all about turning good intentions into good actions. Every day I am tackling one out of five common obstacles that causes our fitness to stop with good intentions. Today it’s all about the person who really wants to lose weight, but they just think they are a lost cause and there is no hope. Let’s dive in to scenario #3…

#3: Hopelessness: They think it’s too late.

I see this all the time. A person is “too fat”, “too out of shape”, “too old” or “too broken” to start working out. Well, tell that to Gail Griesemer, one of our members who has spina bifida and is bound to a wheel chair. (click on her name to read her story). I probably have a member that has beat every excuse you could ever come up with – old age, medical issues, missing limbs, insane work schedule, cancer, brain damage (ha! – no I’m not talking about your mentally disturbed friend haha) – Seriously, Steve’s even training an 83yr old man right now that is in the middle of chemotherapy. So now, what was your excuse again? That’s what I thought.

Unfortunately, many people think they are a lost cause. They subscribe to this way of thinking, fully believe they just have to accept their situation, and they think they just have to live with the consequences. They feel like they’d get in shape IF they could, but they truly don’t think they can. Most of the time, they are wrong.

Solution: This person needs to realize it is NEVER too late. There is always something someone can do to make improvements and get healthy. People, who are in this type of situation, actually can’t afford NOT to workout – they just don’t know how to work around their obstacles. This person would greatly benefit from hiring an expert trainer to work with them, teach them and encourage them.

Hrithik Roshan plays three roles in 'Krrish 3'

‘Krrish 3' is one of 2013's most awaited movies. Although the film’s details are being kept under wraps, it has emerged that Hrithik Roshan will be playing no less than three roles in the film.

Whilst talking to an English daily, Hindustan Times have quoted producer and director Rakesh Roshan in confirmation, “He (Hrithik) is playing Rohit the father and he is also playing Krishna and Krrish. Yup, when he is a simpleton, he’s Krishna and when he’s superman, he is Krrish”.

No doubt those excited about seeing Roshan’s return to the sci-fi avatar will be ecstatic by this news of a triple role. Vivek Oberoi is starring as antagonist in the movie too.

The film currently in post-production.

Zayed Khan to remake Feroz Khan movies

As Bollywood becomes inspired from it’s past, actor-producer Zayed Khan has a few inspiration’s of his own.

Having turned to producing not so long ago, Khan has expressed how he would like to work on remaking some of his uncle Feroz Khan’s major hits. “I would like to remake ‘Dharmatama’ (1975), ‘Qurbani’ (1980). I would love to do it for sure some day,”  reported Khan stating.

Both films were directed and produced by the late Khan, and proved to be box office hits at the time. Khan goes onto add, “If something interesting happens and things fall in place then we would love to do it.” Well looking at the way remakes of the past are going so far, it seems best to stay away from them for the moment.

New Texas HS graduation standards face hurdles

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Most Texans seem to agree that the new high school graduation standards need to change, but there is little agreement on how to do it.

Options for new graduation standards range from five to 15 end-of-course exams, the scores of which may or may not count toward a student's grade point average. There is also a debate over whether high school kids should be able to choose to focus on college preparation or for vocational education when selecting classes.

And lawmakers only began to find out last week what all this might cost. The Legislative Budget Board declared that Sen. Dan Patrick's proposed overhaul, Senate Bill 3, would cost the state $35 million in the first two years,...

DALLAS (AP) — Four groups seeking to open charter schools in Texas turned in applications last year that had sections copied from other applications and even claimed parts of another school's public hearing summary as their own, The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday.

The newspaper reported (http://dallasne.ws/1212u3X ) that, despite the copied portions, the aspiring charter operators signed the applications attesting to their accuracy with the hope of winning approval from the State Board of Education and gaining millions of taxpayer dollars.

The board largely dismissed concerns about the copied material. However, the head of the public integrity unit of the Travis County district attorney's office said such practices could be fraudulent, though that office hasn't...

Sonam Kapoor upset by slums shooting

Shooting on location can be very tough for filmmakers and actors alike. News has it that recent shooting in the Dehli slums left Sonam Kapoor rather upset.

Currently shooting for her forthcoming film ‘Raanjhanaa’, as Kapoor arrived to the slums for shooting she quickly became very upset at the sight of the situation, the people were being faced with. According to Filmfare, director Anand L Rai tried very hard to calm the actress down, though she was still feeling rather upset after the shoot and didn’t leave in a better mood.

Let’s just hope the rest of her film making is a little more pleasant.

Box office: 'Chashme Baddoor' opens well; «Himmatwala' nowhere near 100 crores

'Chashme Baddoor' opens well

Director David Dhawan's "Chashme Baddoor" is the only release of Bollywood this week and unlike last week, 'Himmatwala' offer, has managed a respectable opening at the national box office.

The film, starring Ali Zafar, Siddharth, Divyendu Sharma and Taapsee Pannu has more than enough managed to pull in the crowds despite no involvement so of a big star. Morning shows boast a 30 to 40% occupancy, amounting to 35-45% in the afternoon. These figures are expected to increase in the evening and also on weekends. It seems that comments have served as a boost in good health for the public and promotions, the initial posters and trailers have also kept the interested public. It is, of course, a remake of the 1981 film the same name.

On the other hand, Sajid Khan "Himmatwala" which was published last week saw a drop in the Windows of ticket that can perhaps be put down to Word of mouth. The film is currently in difficulty under the 50 mark crores, placing way below could reach the mark at halfway in its first week to what he had promised Khan.

Big banner films come at a price for Katrina Kaif?

Katrina Kaif plays the waiting game

Katrina Kaif has definitely won his Dungeon for his stay in town B. After you have entered the industry with little experience, she managed to carve out a niche for itself. However, it seems that the State that it has reached now comes at a price.

Kaif is currently under contract for two projects-' Dhoom 3' and 'Bang Bang' - but it is pass spent most of his time in the last six months in the waiting game. '' After rejecting Yash Raj Films "Gunday' because it was felt that she was too beautiful for the role and opting for Hrithik Roshan starrer ' Bang Bang ' instead, it emerges slowly that its decisions may well do not go his way." Hoping to work with the big names of the industry, it is perhaps to be a little too demanding.

Currently, the leggy beauty is having to wait for Roshan to release the finer details of the Hollywood remake 'Bang Bang' script and is also tagging along to ' 3' Dhoom as co-star Aamir Khan is committed also to Rajkumar Hirani Annick.

We wonder if Kaif is now regretting not pas resuming starrer Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor «Gunday», which was finally awarded to Priyanka Chopra.
